Crisis counseling for couples & individuals

Who is it for?

A fast priority appointment for couples, married couples or individuals who are going through an acute marital or relationship crisis.

How do we work?

A crisis counseling can be requested to deal with an acute relationship crisis. The sessions are conducted through a remote video call and can consist of either individual or couple counseling. Given the heightened emotional charge, it is crucial that both partners can participate separately on their own laptop, preferably from another room in the home or even from two different locations. We discuss in advance (by phone or email) how the session will be organised practically.

Crisis counseling is meant to be as short as possible. After each session, we evaluate the situation extensively. When it is established that a sufficient level of calm and stability has been regained, we can switch to a regular relationship therapy program.

How do we define crisis counseling?

In acute crisis situations, sometimes you cannot or do not want to relate your story to someone close to you. Friends and family are quick to offer well-meaning advice, but ultimately their opinion of the situation is coloured and biased, and can leave you even more confused. You may also be in urgent need of practical or financial advice. In short, you need a neutral intermediary who listens and has the professional experience and skills to deal with your immediate needs.

Crisis counseling provides you with a therapist who can have an earnest and thorough discussion with you, who can offer a sense of perspective, and who can protect you from making hasty decisions. Someone with whom you can discuss your initial emotions, and have them channeled in a healthy way for yourself or each other.

Crisis counseling firmly puts the individual needs of each partner first, and brings calm and reason to unstable situations. It provides a safe space where you can be confident that someone is watching over the interests of all parties involved. Your therapist can help you sort everything out before moving on to relationship therapy or divorce mediation.
